Description
Blackmagic Camera ProDock for iPhone 17 Pro
Blackmagic Design’s new Blackmagic Camera ProDock turns the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max into rig-ready production cameras, adding full-size HDMI monitoring, BNC genlock and timecode, dual-purpose USB-C for SSD recording and accessories, 12V locking power, and 3.5 mm audio I/O, with tight integration for the Blackmagic Camera app.
Blackmagic’s pitch is straightforward: remove the connectivity bottlenecks that typically keep phones off professional sets. ProDock extends the iPhone’s I/O to industry-standard ports, so crews can sync multiple cameras, feed proper monitors, attach mics and cans, and record straight to fast external storage while powering the whole rig.
In case you missed it, here’s our coverage of Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro launch which adds ProRes RAW recording capabilities to iPhone.
Genlock and timecode for multicam and LED walls
ProDock brings dedicated BNC connectors for genlock and for external timecode. Genlock keeps frames aligned across devices and live switchers, which is essential for multi-camera and virtual production workflows. It also helps when shooting LED volumes by preventing flicker and tearing from panel refresh behavior. Timecode input lets each iPhone roll independently while still syncing automatically in post, for example when conforming in DaVinci Resolve.

HDMI monitoring and on-set viewing
A full-size HDMI output allows connection to production monitors or EVFs, giving directors, focus pullers, and clients a proper feed without resorting to consumer adapters. Framing, exposure checks, and reference playback become much easier for a conventional video village.

USB-C storage, accessories, and locking 12V power
The dock provides three USB-C ports to cover high-speed external SSD recording and accessories such as lens or camera control devices, while an intelligent power system distributes a locking 12V DC input to the dock, the iPhone, and all connected USB-C gear. This setup supports long takes and more complex rigs without juggling power banks or hubs.

Audio in and out for real monitoring
With 3.5 mm mic input and a separate 3.5 mm headphone output, ProDock enables straightforward use of handheld, lapel, or on-camera shotguns while keeping proper confidence monitoring on set.

App integration and file formats
ProDock is designed to work hand-in-hand with the Blackmagic Camera app on iPhone. You still get the cinema-style UI with quick access to frame rate, shutter angle, white balance, and ISO, plus direct Blackmagic Cloud workflows. Recording to standard formats up to ProRes, including ProRes RAW, is supported for high-end imaging pipelines.
